My keyboard is returning two letters, characters or numbers instead of one for some keys RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I've had Windows 7 on my Dell Adamo 13 since last year and I never had any issues with my keyboard till yesterday.

    The problem I have with my keyboard is that is it is returning two letters, characters or numbers depending on the key I press.

    Typing this question I had to go back and correct it.

    The keys are as follow:

    8 = 08 and shift 8 = )*

    0 = 08 and shift 8 = )*

    - equal to -= and shift - = _+

    = equal to -= and shift - = _+

    i = pi and shift i = PI

    p = pi and shift p = PI

    [ = [] and shift [ = {}

    ] = [] and shift [ = {}

    k = ;k and shift k= :K

    ; = ;k and shift ; = :K

    , = \, and shift , = |<

    Please guide to resolve this problem

    Thank you in advance for your help!

    Ruben

  • Hi,

    I just want to know whether you install any software before this problem occurs? Since you didn’t change the language and keyboards setting, I suspect that this problem may be caused by third party software or virus.

    1.Download Microsoft Security Essentials from  http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx.
    2.Install it.
    3.Update the signature to the latest and perform a full system scan.

    If the issue occurs again, you may boot Windows 7 in Safe Mode, then retry to reproduce the issue. Since this problem might be caused by some third party software. In case this problem disappears in Safe Mode, you could perform a Clean Boot and use 50-50 method to narrow down the issue.

    If the issue persists, please restore your computer to an earlier point:

  • Hi Ruben,

    Can you check your keyboard setting of your current user, to see whether it's as before which you expected?

    Looks like the problem was cause by a different keyboard setting.

  • Hi Yimanh,

    I didn't change the settpings.

    I checked under keyboards and languages and it is US. Is this what you are referring to?

    All I did Monday night was print my baording pass and next morning the issue was there.

    Thank you for responding.
