Prevent a user can print RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

is it possible to prevent that a user can print from sharepoint services?

For example, I've created a web part page with a powerpoint presentation embedded and, I want that the user can only read the content of the powerpoint.

But that user couldn't edit, copy, print, etc the document, only read.

    Can anybody help me?

    Thanks a lot.

  • Depending on your SharePoint Version, Information Rights Management (IRM) might be of use for you.

Please have a look at this: -

  • Thanks Steven for your answer.

I've sharepoint services 3.0 and I've been trying to install RMS 1.0 sp2 on a windows server 2003 but, I'm getting the event id 139 and I can't continue installing it..

  • IRM doesn't come packaged with WSS, it's a MOSS feature.

If you're trying to install the SDK, which also has this feature, I'd suggest you check the requirements noted on the link below: -

  • another thing you could do is modify the css for @media print to hide the body tag, ie

    <style>@media print { body {display:none;}}</style>
Throw this in a HTML Form web part for one page, or throw it into the masterpage for all pages.

  • Steven thanks for your help.

Last week I installed right managemente services 1.0 sp2 on as server 2003. Apparently the installation finished properly and it works fine, I say apparently because when I try to connect from a rms client I'm getting the event id 139 in the server. My mail server is lotus notes, ... and not exchange or windows live so I suspect that this is my problem. Do you know anything about this?

I've wss 3.0 and I've practically discarded to protect my documents from being printed from wss, unless you with your experience say the opposite. Any suggestion?

  • Hi Steven,

in a powerpoint document I can enter for protect the presentation but when I choose one account of my domain (myuser@mycompany.com for example)  in the read permissions (I've active directory and it's able to find the domain accounts) , then I get an error: "Unknown name. Select users with email".

I work with lotus notes and my main question is wheter IRM woks with lotus and perhaps that's my problem.

Do you know anything about this?

    Thanks for your patience.
