WSS 2.0 DBs in compatibility mode 2000 and applications migrating from SQL 2005 to 2008 (R2) instance RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All !

One of my customers has an old WSS 2.0 (content db = 20 GB , 30 intranet applications and workflows = fully developed with C# / ASPx / Silverlight, Search DB very used intensively ) . The DBs are installed on a SQL 2005 SP2 instance shared with others applications.

Some DBs of WSS were backuped and restored from an old SQL 2000 instance (so DBs are in SQL 2000 compatibility mode and the customer team development has seen some locks, perhaps bad compatibility levels DBs)

He wants to migrate the WSS 2.0 DBs to an SQL 2008 SP1 or SQL 2008 R2, without changing the WSS platform

Is it possible ? If yes, how ? Are there some best practices about DBs WSS 2.0 migration from earlier SQL version to SQL 2008 ?

Are there risks for these applications ?

Thanks for advance for your ideas / help - Regards - Have a nice day ! RHUM2
