IE 11 won't install (Error 9C47 and 9C57) RRS feed

  • When i searched the posts, this problem seems to be a never ending story.

    We have one PC in our network where we cannot install IE11. The PC is running Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit (German language). IE9 was successfully installed via WSUS in the past. The installation of IE11 via WSUS failed. We did not bother about that for some time but now we need IE11 on this machine.

    In the log there is on significant error:

    00:08.471: INFO:    KB2729094 could not be download is not installed.

    After that the installation stops.

    According to the troubleshooting guide https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2872074/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0 we tried a manual installation of the prerequisites. The named KB2729094 was successfully installed but the installation states the same error.

    All other prerequisites could not be manually installed because the installer sayd that the update does not fit our System but the versions we downloaded were the correct 64-Bit versions.

    We tried an installation with an ie11 installation package we downloaded from microsoft. When we did this, we got other errors in the log file:

    Interesting enough is that the Update KB2729094 that was mentioned above was not downloaded as prerequisite because it was alreade installed.

    We got stuck here. Any suggestions beyond the troubleshooting guide?

    assuming you are using an IEAK deployment.

    try

    rolling back KB2729094 , then running Windows update to update IE to the latest available version.

    outcomes may depend upon which version of IE is currently installed.

  • So, not really an answer, Rob, but a suggested solution, which I guess is the best one can do with Microsoft's increasingly bug-ridden update\install protocols.

    Ordinarily I would chastise a rollback-reset advisory but, given that I now have a useless 6-month old HP box that an update failed on, with piss poor error handling, subsequently destroying the whole O/S, I have to concur.

    Do a roll-back, give it a few weeks for Microsoft to fix the bugs that they were too lazy to check for before, and try again. 

    In the meantime, I'd also look into running VMs, even though this means probably spending more on the O/S.  Certainly, in my case, were it not for running my main dev system on a VM, I would have been screwed.  

    Since all I destroyed was the host, I could port a back-up of the VM to a new box and be back at work in about 30 mins.  In future, I'll use a VM to test any Microsoft updates or downloads before I run them on an active system.  Extra $ on that but, it is worth it, since the data is far more valuable than the O/S or the hardware.

  • Hi Michael,

    Please make sure if your computer is Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 since Internet Explorer 11and the failedKB2834140 is only for Windows 7 SP1 32 and 64 bit.

    Right click Computer ->Properties -> Windows Edition as below:

    If it's indeed SP1, check and install all available Windows Updates and disable your firewall temporarily to retry.

    If it's failure, upload the log file to:

    1. OneDrive

    If you have no sensitive information and want other member to be involved.

    There's that SysNative thing again.   So, what did you find in your searches?   <eg>

    Don Pick thinks that it is a red herring provided you download and unpack the update manually...

  • It really is SP1.

    I will try to disable the firewall temporarily but i find it a bit strange to do that.

  • I did the rollback of KB2729094 and did the update that came from wsus

    see the results below. the strange thing is, that the prerequisites cannot be installed.

    This seems to be the main problem.

    As with that other incident I pointed you to I think you are going to have to at least look at the CBS.log for this event if not supplement what it is intended to imply by running ProcMon.
