Error adding resource from AD "Invalid Name for a resource. Resource names cannot Contain Brackets" Adding Resource - Project 2010 standalone - RRS feed

  • Question

    • Project 2010 Pro standalone
    • Adding Resource from Active Directory gives error "Invalid name for a resource.  Resource Names cannot contain brackets ([]) or the list separator character."
    • This only happens when adding users that have a mailbox.
    • Have tried changing the default list separator in control panel.
    • When adding user from AD, the name returns using brackets around the smtp address.  Example:  Doe, John (john.doe@companyname.com).  These could be the brackets that is causing the fault.
    • Adding user from the Address book does work for the same accounts.

    Any ideas for a workaround?

    Thanks,

  • This is known behavior when importing names from AD, this can be best worked through by adding resource using Address Book option in MS Project as it replaces the separator character with a space which is acceptable by the tool.

  • I'm using Project 2016 and I've same issues? So this issue still exist since last 10 year or we have do anything in AD naming conventions (separate comma, bracket, etc.) any other workaround beside using Address Book Options in Ms Project 2016?

  • Yes, a workaround of some type would be appreciated because using resource from Address Book does not work when integrated with TFS which is AD-based.
