FAILURE (7002): Computer is a member of a domain, should be in a workgroup when sysprepping (MDT 2014) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I built a Windows 10 PRO image. I configured it and used MDT 2014 to sysprep and capture the image. When I deploy the image it works fine except I get the error:

    FAILURE (7002): Computer is a member of a domain, should be in a workgroup when sysprepping (MDT 2014)

    The image that I built was never joined to the domain before sysprep, so somehow MDT is picking up that it was.  During the deployment I do join it to the domain via my MDT Rules (customsettings.ini).  Any idea how I fix this?  I've tried both the x86 and x64 deployments but get the same results.

  • OK, I was able to fix it by changing:

    SkipCapture=NO
    DoCapture=YES

    to

    SkipCapture=YES
    DoCapture=NO

  • Ask this in the MDT forum and include links to your logs on something like OneDrive.

    Logs are very important. https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/ Mention any customizations you have made.

    I couldn't find the MDT forum category when I posted this otherwise I would have put this question / issue in there. Can you tell me where this is located?  Thank you for your help.

  • So towards the end of the deployment, MDT logs into the Admin account automatically.  It kicks off Windows Update and then tries to "Execute Sysprep".   That's when I get the error.  The deployment is fine though because everything works like it should.  I just need to find out where and why it's trying to execute sysprep after it's joined to the domain.

    I checked the BDD and Wizard log on the PC that the deployment is failing on but it only shows this:

    <![LOG[Property LogPath is now = C:\MININT\SMSOSD\OSDLOGS]LOG]!><time="06:01:25.000+000" date="02-17-2016" component="Wizard" context="" type="1" thread="" file="Wizard">

    What other logs do you need and where can I find them?
