PS2010: How to keep permissions on a project and its pwa workspace in synch ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am using Sharepoint 2010 together with Project Server 2010. I have created a couple of projects and their corresponding project workspaces.

How can I get the permissions on the projects in synch with the permissions set on their assigned project workspace ?

    Are they completely separate?

    Example:
I would like the PM to have administrative/contribute access to the project workspace.
I would like a team member/resource to have atleast read or contribute access.

    Thanks for help!

    Sven

  • OK, I did some research and found out that there is some kind of built in synch mechanism. In regards to the permissions a user has on Project Server, Sharepoint will set the permissions on the Project Workspaces.

By default there are these permission levels:

    • Web Administrators (Microsoft Office Project Server)
    • Project Managers (Microsoft Office Project Server)
    • Team Members (Microsoft Office Project Server)
    • Readers (Microsoft Office Project Server)

  • Hi Sven,

Project workspace permission works based on the project member role in project, When a user is a member of the Project Team, they get read permissions, when they are assigned to a task in the project, they get contribute rights.    so i believe this automatically resolves your requirement you mentioned, hope this helps.
