Microsoft 2013 Word Files - Locking RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I came here from Windows Server forum to get more professional support.

We have word files stored on our server providing network shares to office users.

The issue we noticed is that one person can open a word file, which will get locked. If someone goes in straight away after this person has launch the word file, they will get a prompt that this file is locked and they can only have read-only access.

If this person waits about 30-60 minutes and tries to open this file again (with another user still working on it), they will not get prompt about read only access and they can make changes straight away, which usually lead to two people working on the same file at the same time.

Does anybody know what could be causing this issue?

  • Hi,

When two people working on the same file at the same time, please confirm if they can save this document successfully in this network path.

I am not familiar with file server settings, please confirm if there is any time out setting for the network path instead of time out for document. Additionally, please confirm if the first user is editing this document without any interrupting or network broken time.

Additionally, when the second user open this document 30-60 minutes later, please confirm if a word temp file is shown in this network folder. Please do the checking above and provide more information here for further troubleshooting. Waiting for your updates.
