Move Computers automatically to specific groups RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

we are using the latest version of WSUS and have different update groups (desktop, server, etc.).

I wonder if there is any way to specify which device should belong to which group so servers are being moved automatically to the "servers" group on WSUS, all laptops to the "laptops" group, etc.

    Thank you.

  • Yes you can create gpo's to move clients from a specific ou to a specific group on WSUS.

but can you also move the clients based on the clients operating system.

for example if operating system = server then move it to the server group?

because of historical reasons we have servers and clients in the same ou in AD...

Yes you can, by using Security Filtering or WMI Filtering on the GPO, or, by using Group Policy Preferences, this gives you the ability to conditionally apply the different GPO(s) to different computers/groups.

  • Yes.

You can create specific gpo's that set the appropriate group. The feature is called client-side targeting.
