  • There is no issues on moving a domain controller VM or any virtual machine form a Hyper-V 2008 R2 to Hype-v 2012 R2.

Hyper-V 2012 R2 is fully compatible with Hyper-V 2008 R2 except for some Operating systems like Windows 2000 SP4 (Already deprecated, old history).

And you will not need MVMC for that.

    1) Shutdown your virtual machine

    2) Go to your Virtual Machine folder, copy the folder to your new Hyper-V 2012 R2 storage

    3) Open the Hyper-V 2012 R2 console, choose Import a Virtual Machine

    4) Select the Vm folder and click OK

    5) Follow the instruction

    6) Your VM is now on Hyper-v 2012 R2

One extra step to be done:

After you start your VM, open it with the Hyper-V VM connect console, logon to Windows

Go to Action, Insert Integration Services Disk

Now go to your DVD drive and choose to upgrade the integration services. This  step will require restart
