  •  It has been announced that One Care will no longer be offered after June of this year.  It will be supported for existing customers.

  • I'd say this is because Windows 7 will come out AFTER June this year, therefore they would be less likely to include compatibility for the product. In the meantime I recommend using NOD32 either Antivirus or Smart Security Suite editions. Currently there is a Beta for version 4 of this AV (which I can say works fine in Windows 7), i'm not sure how long the Beta will last but during the time that it does you get free updates. And once the Beta is finished you could always download the 30 day trial of version 3.

Personally working as an IT Technician I haven't seen many customers with One Care and I haven't seen it have too much success (obviously why they're discontinuing it). We use NOD32 all the time at work to clean the virus infections and it hasn't failed us yet.

You can get the Beta from here - http://beta.eset.com/

And trial from here - http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download_int.php

    Hope that helps

  • I agree that onecare will not be available after june this year and people should be considering replacements but do not forget it is only people who are extremely interested in computing that access these forums and the general public who buy computers as a tool not a hobby do not. These people may have been influenced by microsofts marketing to buy onecare with their new computers. It may well have been provided by the oem as a trial in the setup. This could be the case up to june this year which would mean they have a years subscription until june next year. So when is the release of Windows 7 planned.

I personaly have 3 systems running onecare and have just renewed so my subscription will not expire until feb next year.

I am running the pre release trial of norton 360 on my windows 7 and it seems to perform quite well so i will probably go to that eventually.

Microsoft need to inform the general public users of onecare not to purchase it any more if they are thinking of moving to windows 7.

    Hi all,

You can refer to the following article to install Windows Live OneCare on Windows 7. Please note it may makes the computer at risk, which is not recommended.

HOW TO: Install and use OneCare on Windows 7

    Thanks.

  • With all due respect Larry, Windows 7 is a beta and Microsoft reserves the right to say what is and is not supported on Windows 7.  This forum is under the banner of the ITpro forum, and the general public should not be running betas.

Just a question, if a fix is that simple, is there a chance that natural compatibility will be added later on for existing customers, even if by final release it won't be supported officially.

  • i have to disagree. I have been using OneCare on my to desktops and four notebooks since it came out. I must say that I have never had an issue with it! I can not say the same about Norton or a lot of the other "high tech" produces out there. If in fact MS does discontinue it I will be one unhappy camper.

At the risk of having people think I'm a know nothink I agree with the above.  I really liked WindowsOneCare.

I also echo the person who said they just paid for another year.  It has really ... upset me, that a microsoft product I just paid a year subscription fee for does not work with Win 7.

  • I agree with you gwb567 I have been using One Care on 3 of my personal computers since it was in beta. I have also installed on a least 5 of my friends computers, there has never been a problem from day one. I also will be a unhappy camper. My son just told me that he saw on one of these forums that Windows will start a free service to be available for like 3rd world countries & basically all around the world, right now I'm searching for this. When he gets off work today he is going to send me the link. Also I just paid for another year in April, are going to get a refund or what? Is MS going to just leave us in the lurch? Lots of questions and I'm searching this forum for the answers. Thank you for listening.
