Sysprep RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

I work for a small company roughly around 300 employees and I'm having a very hard time using sysprep/generalize to deploy machines. I have an unattend.xml file and when I use it in audit mode without generalize it boots up fine but then, when I try and use the oobe/generalize/shutdown and when I restart I get the "Windows can not complete the installation" error. Here is my unattend.xml file. Any help is appreciated. We do not use a PXE server as we're a small company and are trying to use sysprep to deploy basic images as needed on machines. All our machines are Windows 7 Professional X64 Bit.

    Here is my unattend.xml file...

  • How are you building your base/reference image? Is it on a VM or physical computer?

How are you capturing your wim file?

  • Hi,

You should check the setupact.log and setuperr.log which you can find in C:\Windows\Panther. Have a go at it with trace.exe or cmtrace.exe to properly view which value is causing this issue.

During the occuring of the error, press SHIFT+F10 to open up the command prompt and do a net use to a network share to copy the logfiles away from the troubled machine.

    Cheers! Rens

  • Rens is correct. First place to look is in the panther logs.

How to debug problems in Windows Setup (Panther)

Although, I must admit that this may be the wrong forum for questions related to "Audit" mode. MDT does not touch Audit mode.

IF you still have problems, please copy your panther logs to a public share like OneDrive and share the link.
