Intermittent "Call Failed due to network issues" error in skype when making calls RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Champs,

I see this happens on LAN, VPN or Internet with few users, and problem disappears if user logsout and relogin, good for sometime and it happens again sporadically. is it a server issue, or network or client level itself ? How to go about it further ?

    Log info:

  • Hi Vasu Miriyala,

What is your environment, on-premise or online?

According to the error message, it seems related to network.

Do you try to make call between mobile clients?

Make sure that your client has only one network. Try to test the call in the same network.

Based on the log information, you can check the firewall ports 3478 and 443. The two ports are related to A/V Edge connectivity.

Moreover, confirm your client is the latest version. And you can try to clear the client cache.

  • Thanks Zhao,

This issue (call between two skype clients) happens with when I am on VPN or LAN or open Internet, all 3 cases. It works for most of the time in a day, but problme occurs intermittently, not sure if its because of server overloaded times, dynamic firewall or port blocks at network during that time or as I dont see anything of client end as it works well if I logout and relogin to Skype

Cache clear tried with no luck, version is Office 365 pro plus

    Thanks, Vasu

  • Hi Vasu Miriyala,

You should check the ports on Edge server.

When you are in a multiparty call, does this issue persists?

  • Hi Vasu Miriyala,

Do you check the ports on Edge server? Any update?

In addition, you can check the Lync server event viewer if there any related error message.

  • it was found issues is happening when Public IP changes on Laptop and skype fails to make calls with same region, though not sure what is underlying issue is. Possible some route or existing thread or session loses due to change in IP. Current fix is, to relogin... creates a fresh session and works till chagne in IP
