Windows XP Media Center SP3 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to know if there is an installation disc for XP Media Center that includes SP3.  I was running sfc on a Media Center laptop that has SP3 installed, it was happy with an XP Pro SP3 disc that I had, but it clled for disc 2.  I have Media Center 2005, but it would not accept it.  This laptop could be completely fixed if the sfc could complete its run; the owner does not want to reinstall.  Any ideas about getting a disc that would work?

    Thanks!

  • Thank you Vegan, I do understand that.  The question is, was there ever a disc set for MCE 2005 that included SP3?  If not, my disc set may just be worn out and I need to somehow locate another copy.

  • I don't have a problem with SP3 itself, Guowen.  This machine has been running MCE 2005 SP3 for some time.  The owner had reported a problem with messages indicating certain .dlls were missing or corrupt, so I ran sfc /scannow.  Naturally, it calls for a disc, so I inserted an XP Pro SP3 cd, which it happily accepted, for a while.  When it called for disc 2 I realized it wanted MCE, and I do have a copy of MCE 2005.  I inserted disc 2, but the machine responded that the disc was not correct.  That's why I wondered if there was ever a cd set produced that included SP3 for MCE, just like there are cds for XP Pro that have SP2 or SP3 included.

  • I have encountered the same situation. Did you ever find a solution? If so, where did you get the cd's?
