  • make sure SQL server up and running and accessible using management studio. Also make sure your farm account still have access to config_db. If these doesn't solve your issue then seek help from your Ntk team to trace what's blocking SQL and SP servers communication.

  • On time some more information; the SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server databases are running on different servers, 192.168.0.91 and 192.168.0.101, respectively, so on the same network segment with no firewall between. Also, both are running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and Windows firewall was disabled.

    telnet 192.168.0.101 1433 opens successfully!

  • I don't believe that something is blocking SP and SQL communication. If I can't open SP Central Administration, is there any configuration file on SP or registry key responsible for authentication and SQL Server IP address information? I want to check where to SP is trying to access.

  •   Looking into SP log files I found something:

The problem is that SRVWI018 points to a old Windows server without SP databases. The right SQL server hostname is SRVWI021! Where and how can I change it now? A workaround in SP server hosts file can do the magic?  I guess this is the issue!

  • To whom it may concern, CLICONFG.EXE program solved the issue. It helped me to point SharePoint servers to the target SQL Server correctly!
