Expand package to local RRS feed

  • Question

  • There an application where the other sequenced application is a pre-requisite for that, I am using "Expand package to local" option for same..My question is Can we use ".sft" file instead of ".sprj"? If NO then why?

Can anyone also explain why we can't install App-v client and App-v sequentier on same machine?

    Thanks in advance!!!!

  • Why are you expanding package to local exactly? That option through the sequencer at least, is only available when using the sprj file.

The App-V Sequencer should be on a relatively clean machine. Any applications or services which may interfere with the successful sequencing of applications should be disabled or removed. This is because files, registry, folders etc. may be modified by this service during the course of you sequencing a package, resulting in 'noise'\non application specific files\folders\registry getting put in your virtual package.

  • The sequencer needs to understand what makes up the package and that only comes from the SPRJ file. Therefore expanding via the SFT file is not available.

  • Thanks for your reply, I am agree on the second point & I understand that clearly. But My first Ques is:
I have a scenario where I want to install a app-v packge as pre-requisite and for that, I am using "Expand package to local system" option and there I am getting browse window for .sft,.sprj and for all files. I have done these kind of application with .SPRJ file, and (FYI I am not able to proceed with .SFT file) so I want to know that why we can't use .SFT file?
