VM Stuck in Stopping State RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have Server 2012 and have a couple of VM's loaded on them. Sometimes the machines reboot due to updates, or failures, or sometimes they just need to be rebooted for something related to software. However with all of them - if we reboot a VM it goes into stopping state, and it would stay there until you cycle power on the host. I haven't yet found a solution online, and have posted this question on multiple other forums also.

First if you try to end the VM service/task you get: "Access denied"

Then after you got the "Access denied" - The Hyper-V Manager will then be stuck like this:

All you can do now is reboot the host.

How can I get the VM's to just power down like they're supposed to back when they where first installed?
