Needing to install WIN10 on a new internal SATA HDD RRS feed

  • Question

  • Had a desktop crash and purchased a new HDD. I have formatted and partitioned the new HDD and it is recognized in the desktop. WIN10 won't install. I get the install screen, select install now, screen flashes and desktop reboots. Have tried using advanced features to repair startup to no avail. What am I missing? Thought WIN10 would find HDD, allow install, reformat, create boot partition, etc. Thanks.

Answers

  • How did you partition and format the HDD out of interest?

    At the first screen press shift+F10 and command prompt should come up. Enter;

    diskpart

    list disk

    -Does that show the disk? type exit twice to quit diskpart then the command prompt.

    Where did you get the media you are trying to install from? Download Windows 10 use Download tool now, try again. Are you burning it, making a boot USB?
