HDD sleeping RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, i have set up a server with 1 single ide hdd as os and 3x160gb sata software RAID 0 with server 2012. My problem is that i always hear my hard drive spinning even if i set it to turn off after 10 mins. The HDD lights aren't flashing and i am wondering if it is the RAID problem. I think the OS drive can sleep because my server runs at 83w and when the hdd slept, it runs at 70w (with a power meter).

  • I think you are on the right track in regards to your RAID controller.  Check with the vendor to see if they allow power saving mode on their devices.

  • Hi,

Please open Device Manager, find all your hard disks, go to Details tab and check Power data under Property.

Please let us know the Power state mappings including s3 to s5.
