ADFS 3.0 stuck on logon page RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We use ADFS 3.0 with AADSync to log in to the Office 365 services but our users are sometimes unable to logon.

Once in a while a user get stuck on the (ADFS) logon page. When submitting the correct username and password, the (ADFS) login page just reloads (without any error message). The user is unable to get passed the logon page.

Clearing the cookies usually solves the issue, but not all users know how to do this and it can be hard to perform on a mobile.

We suspect the issue is related to a cookie gettig corrupt, it seems that for our ADFS environment there are 2 cookies MSISAuth (same name, same path, same domain) of which one is not a base64 encoded string (the one that starts with AAEAA)?!

Any ideas or help is very much appreciated!

  • Hi Bart,

What's the behavior when running the browser in in-private mode .. do you see the same behavior in other browsers or is it just IE?

  • Hi,

you were mentioning this  issue happening for the users that login from  the mobile device is it? What about the desktop users, for them is this working without any issues? Did you  try in different computers as welll.. Also what about proxy and general restrictions from the group policy , is that also applied in the browser

  • Hello,

We see the behaviour in various browsers, on different platforms (win, mac) and also on mobiles (ios, android). It can also happen within apps requiring adfs authentication (eg Office proplus activation, Office 365 admin app).

When starting an in-private session, or using a different device, the user can log in without issue. We have no clue why for a certain user it doesn't work anymore at a certain point in time.

  • Do you see any errors with the certificates in the event viewer ( ADFS server) , can you also check the certificates are all in place.

  • Let's open a new post for your issue.

Please mention the details of your architecture, the setting in Azure AD, the configuration of the clients.

Also, note that ADFS is not requirement to achieve SSO with Azure AD, so you might also just use Azure AD Connect Seamless SSO.
