  • Sharepoint 2003 : Problem to access directory services
    Hi,
We have a SharePoint (WSS 2) server installed in 2005 in an Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Domain.
It supports its own IIS 6 Server and SQL Server 2005.
This server is sited in the DMZ of our network. It is integrated to the domain and furnishes 3 functions:
    - OWA Server
    - RPC over HTTP Server (the Exhange server is sited in the LAN)
    - Sharepoint Server
When this server has been installed our organization had an unique domain controller DC1 in Windows Server 2003.
The Directory Security of IIS is set to "Windows Integrated Security".

In 2009, we migrated to a Windows Server 2008 domain with a new domain controller DC2.
All the FSMO roles have been tranferred to the new domain controller DC2.
The Global Catalog has been tranferred too to the new domain controller.
And also de DHCP service has been moved to the new server.

The DNS address of the Sharepoint server has been changed to point towards the new server.
The DC1 Server is always a domain controller with the only role of replicating Active Directory and DNS.
All is functionning correctly since 2009.

Today, we should like to stop the DC1 server.
When we stop the DC1 server :
    - OWA is still functionning
    - RPC over HTTP is still functionning
    - Sharepoint does not function any more.
When we try to connect to the Sharepoint application, the Authentication Dialog Box is still displayed but when we enter a
name and a password, the system declares it can't display the page.
There is an exception : if we enter the name and the password of the identity of the Application Pool of the SharePoint
application, the page is correctly displayed.

As soon as we reconnect the DC1 Server every thing functions perfectly again.

Have somebody an idea to modify the IIS server or the Sharepoint application so that it continues to find Active Directory
even if the DC1 Server is down.

    Regards,

    Pierre-Alain.

Note : all attempts to migrate to MOSS 2007 have failed without any explanation of the Microsoft support. This is the reason why we are always in WSS 2.
