  • Hi,

For an explanation of SPF and instructions on how to create an SPF record, see here: http://markgossa.blogspot.com/2015/08/understanding-spf-records-part-1.html. SPF records specify which public IPs are allowed to send emails from your domains. It instructs other mails servers to reject email if not sent from an IP that you've specified. Your mail server can also be configured to reject emails if it receives email from an unauthorised IP for a particular domain. This is SenderID filtering.

As for DKIM, please see here: https://www.rackspace.com/knowledge_center/article/create-a-dkim-txt-record.

More information about DMARC is here: https://dmarc.org/.

DMARC is a combination of SPF and DKIM and both SPF and DKIM are used to prevent spoofing of your domain and to also help your mail server reject spoofed email. Spoofed email is email that is reported to come from a particular domain but is not sent by that particular company and will block many viruses.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

Exchange Online supports DKIM but on-premises Exchange does not. To sign emails with DKIM using on-premises Exchange, you need to use a 3rd party application. See more information and how to set up DKIM for Exchange here: https://www.emailarchitect.net/forum/yaf_postst357_Set-up-DKIM-in--Exchange-2007-2010-2013.aspx#post538

SPF records can be created for any version of Exchange as the configuration is in external DNS only. See here for setup instructions: http://markgossa.blogspot.com/2015/08/understanding-spf-records-part-1.html.

As for DMARC records, these are also configured in DNS only and so don't rely on Exchange versions. You need to set up your DKIM or SPF records first then create the DMARC record as per the instructions here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/2466563?hl=en.

    Thanks.
