ADMT DC and file server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I´m doing a interforest migration with ADMT 3.2 and now I found a file server in the source domain that it´s a domain controller too. How can I migrate this server with ADMT?

This server is Server 2003 R3 Standard

    Thanks for all.

  • Hi

as far as i undersstand you try to migrate this domain file shares to another domain,is that correct? If yes,you should migrate file shares&file server first.Cause if you remove AD DS role on server 2003,it will be possibilty issues about permissions, share permissions,etc...

Also you can simply migrate file shares with robopcopy.

  • Hi

First you should configure domain trust between these domains,

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc740018(v=ws.10).aspx

Then you can migrate users, groups, computers, etc with ADMT,

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/active-directory-migration-tool-versions-and-supported-environments(v=ws.10).aspx

And you can migrate file server&file shares with Robocopy include NTFS Permissions,

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733145.aspx

Also if need, you could copy share permissions manually,

  • Hi Burak...

I have configured domain trust between these domains and I have migrated users, groups and computers with ADMT, Enabled SIDHistory , but now I want to migrate these member server with roles Domain Controller and File Server.

Documentation about ADMT say that you can migrate File Server like another computer, Security Translation and Computer Translation...

but this server is Domain Controller too and documentation say that you have to remove Active Directory DS , migrate as a member server and then reinstall AD DS...

My question is about what can happen in my environment? they are 2 roles very different togheter. What can I do first? It is safe?

Reading it seem to be incompatible...thanks
