ping RRS feed

  • Question

  • If I send a ping, and get a response, does it immediately send the next ping or does it wait for a specific amount of time before the next one is sent out. i.e if I have my timeout set to 10 seconds and on 6.32 seconds I get a response, will the next ping be sent out at 6.33 msec or wait until 7 sec..

  • hi there,

by default ping uses 4 seconds as timeout before it sends Request time out . so time out means ICMP protocol will wait for specified amount of time before it sends an request time out, in your case if it receives reply with in 10 seconds , then you do not see request timeout and next immediate request time out will be set for 10 sec and for next reply it will not wait for the timeout.
