How to fully clone sharepoint 2007 ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a client which ask us to develop a customization for them, but they can not provide us the testing environment. So we try to set up the testing environment by ourselves, my question is how should our client backup their sharepoint 2007 which enable us the fully restore it ?

We have tried the following options, but not work:

    1.fully backup the database

2.use stsadm import and export(some web template can not find)

But we still can not restore the environment in our office.

What can we do ?  Thanks in advance for any advice !

  • Dennis,

You can set up a QA environment in the following way.

    • Use stsadm -o backup to backup the entire site collection. Do the same for multiple site collections
    • Set up the new server farm. Make sure the service packs on both the environments are same. The MOSS versions defined in CA should be same.
    • Create a new web application in the new server farm. Create a new site collection.
    • Use stsadm -o restore on the new site collection.

Perform the above steps for all site collections in a web application. This should give you a QA environment.

    Does this help?
