Use IP8540 (CX700) phone as common area phone? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a common area phone set up in the Lync\AD including hotdesking.  We only have IP8540 phones.  How can I get that model phone to sign in as a common area phone?

  • No you can't.  Only the Polycom CX500, 600, Astra 6721ip Lync Phone edition phones can be used for Common Area devices in Lync

  • More generally only the Lync Phone Edition devices running the 'Aries' version of the client support PIN Authentication which is needed to use Common Area Phone accounts. (Polycom CX500/600/3000, both Aastra device, and both HP devices).  The 'Tanjay' device family (Polycom CX700 and LG-Nortel IP8540) do not support this feature.
