But my Database seems OK, and there is no SQL error about failing connections…

    Any Idea?

  • Hello Romain,

You get the error when listing managed properties via:

Central Admin -> FAST Query SSA -> FAST Search Administration -> Managed properties?

And, have you always gotten the error, or has it been working before? Also, do you get an error when executing Get-FASTSearchMetadataManagedProperty in a FS4SP PowerShell on the FS4SP server?

  • I'm not sure because I never had to get into this section. Anyway, get-fastSearchMetadatManagedProperty return this error: An error occurred while connecting or communicating with the database. Beside this error, indexation and querying seems just fine...

  • looks like it's an permission issue. Is user member of the fastsearchadministrators group? Does the service run with the correct permissions?

  • Hi,

I check the fastsearchAdmin Group, it seems OK.

But if I look in the <FASTSearch>\var\log\syslog\all.log log file, I got the following messages :

[2011-09-06 08:50:32] ERROR : qrserver@SP-SEARCH-02: systemmsg: Admin error occurred during loading of keyword data. The keyword cache may be stale. Exception Message:An error occurred while connecting to or communicating with the database.

Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\serviceSPfastS'. at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.GetConnection(DbConnection owningConnection) at ......

[2011-09-06 08:50:41] ERROR : qrserver@SP-SEARCH-01: systemmsg: Admin error occurred during loading of keyword data. The keyword cache may be stale. Exception Message:An error occurred while connecting to or communicating with the database.

On the other side, I don't have any SQL error about connection failure on any SQL Server (Fast Admin Database is mirrored on 2 servers)

Where can I check the server that AdminService tries to connect to?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

I had the same issue and found that the SQL for FASTSearchAdminDatabase couldn't started because the log on as account is expired.

You can find the information about the SQL server for FASTSearchAdminDatabase  in Install_Info file on FAST Server (at the end of file).

  • Hi,

We are running AddSynonym, Add Keyword powershell cmdlets through a script which inserts synonyms in FAST Search Keywords link, in one of the site collection.. The script runs fine for sometime.. And after that in the log I can see error message "An error occured while trying to communicate to the database".. when I check the site collection -> site settings-> FAST Search keywords, the error message “Unexpected error occured while communicating with Administration Services”, where in this was not displaying his error initiall, I have confirmed it was working fine before running the script. We have another log which says that few of the keywords are inserted and exists, but couldn't check due to this issue.

Note: The error “Unexpected error occured while communicating with Administration Services” occurs only for FAST Search keywords link, all other links in CA related to FAST & Site collection settings works fine.

Could anyone please let me know how to resolve both the error message. Thanks!!!!

  • I'm having same issue here,

Can you explain you to what groups you added the identity of Search Service Application.

Is it local FASTSerachAdministrators group on FAST server or something else?

    Thanks

  • Recently faced the same issue. However the fix was simpler for me. Checked IIS, found that the FASTSearchAdmin app pool was stopped. Once it was started, issue got fixed.
