WDS service setup. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone!

Does anyone has a step by step instructions to set up a WDS service using DHCP options? I am running W2K8 R2 and the DHCP and WDS server will be different servers on the network. DHCP runs on server core. Can I install WDS on a server core too?

Also, we do have several VLANs on the network.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

Were the client and WDS server in the same subnet?

If yes, no specific steps need to make it work and you don’t need to configure DHCP options.

If not, you need to configure the DHCP relay agent on the router to forward the DHCP message from clients to the WDS server.

Here are some threads discussed before, you could have a look:

WDS setup with separate DHCP server

PXE server on different subnet from DHCP

You cannot use Windows Deployment Services with the Server Core installation option.

    Please refer the following article:

Managing the WDS role using the Server Core installation option

Hope this can help you, if you have anything unclear, please let me know.

    Best Regards,

    Ellen
