DPM 2012R2 always sends full VM when create recovery point RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I have problem with some VM backups - DPM often sends full VM, but at same time other VM backups sends only changes.

    My environment:
Host - W2012 R2, Tiered storage spaces (Storage Tiers Optimization - Disabled)
VM: W2012 R2 Files server (defrag - Disabled); W2012 R2 SQL server; Linux web server

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Gerardas,

Whether all VMs are stored in a same location (same volume)? And whether all VMs are backed up in same time with same configuration?

I would like to find the different part of the Full Backup VMs and incremental backup VMs, such as operation system, installed integrate service etc.

Also here is an article related to requirements of backing up VMs. It is not specific for this issue but still recommended to have a look:

  • Hi,
I analyzed 4 VM. All VM on tiered volume and all have enabled integration services.
    1. w2008r2  size 570gb - Recovery point transfers 520-560gb last 10 days. Earlier RP transferred only sometimes that amount of data
    2. w2008r2 size 53gb - RP always transfers less than 1gb
    3. w2012r2 size 1.2tb - RP transfers 1,15tb  last 10 days. Earlier - 3-4gb
    4. w2012r2 size 35gb - RP always transfers 1-2gb
Other VM on not tiered volume backup good.
Host server rebooted 70 days ago.
DPM agent updated 5 days ago without reboot
Last "good" recovery point was 10 days ago. I looked at event log but didn't find any interesting things.

    In DpmFilterTrace.txt I found:

    Failing because (1 + 0) more Writes Pending, WorkerActive = 0
    2015-05-27 02:14:21.552 instance.cpp:1849:  WriteToTrackingStatusFile: TrackingStatus: 0xe0062000

What is meanining of this status ?
