Installing vista home premium from Technet multi-edition DVD RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recently, I was asked to repair a ACER laptop belonging to my son's friend. I downloaded the ISO from Technet and attempted  installing vista home premium from multi-edition DVD, but it installed the Premium Edition. Where can I find instructions one using these DVDs?

  • The TechNet installation media you have is designed for "clean installs".  You need to acquire the proper OEM media:

  • Hi Carey,
I actually tried to do a clean install of Vista Home Premium. Althouth the TN download page says the .iso contains Home, Professional and Ultimate, there appears to be no way of actioning these options, so by default the Ultimate version is installed.
I found out that Acer do provide a Vista Recovery Disk for the particular model of laptop, but not a Windows 7 upgrade (laptop is less than a year and a half old). The laptop had 78 Trojans, Viruses etc, as she had no working anti-virus (AVG would not work).
