To many things to do with Visual C++ RRS feed

  • Question

  • Sorry if in the wrong place, There's like 100 different sub sections lol.

    Hello today as I'm going along cleaning my computer due to some Trojan  sneaking around
    I noticed there a lot of "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005/2008 things along with some SDK's ,
    I played around with Visual C++ but since left that route, do I need these any more its just make a big mess in my Add/Remove

    There's around 16 items

    - 3 Are SQL server things.
    - 9 Are Visual C++ 2005/2008 Redistributable
    - 3 Are SDK things
    - 1 Is WSE 3.0 Runtime

    -------Also 3 MSXML 3.0 SP2 ---Don't know what these are.

    I would really like some insight on these.

  • I wouldn't worry about it. Most of these things were probably silently installed by other application as necessary components. There are few versions of Visual C++ (non SP1, SP1, ATL Security update) so I would leave them be. "SQL server" things are probably the Microsoft database server and client (again, needed by some application you installed, like, say, MS Office Business Contact Manager or MS Visual Studio). WSE is this. MSXML and SDK is probably also needed by some application used for creating programs or web pages.
    In other words - I wouldn't uninstall it unless I were sure which application uses them (and I wouldn't uninstall Visual C++ ad MSXML at all).
