Running DOS applications on MWS2012

    Question

  • I wanted to know if there is still native support for 16-bit DOS applications in Multipoint Server 2012 Premium.

    Can anyone help me? Thanks.

  • Hi Rochelle,

MultiPoint Server 2012 is written on Server 2012, so if the applications fit these two criteria, they should be fine:

    1. They work on server operating systems, in this case, Windows Server 2012

    and

    2. They work in a remote session

While this site is a bit outdated, you may be able to find compatibility for earlier versions to get a general idea: http://rdcompatibility.com/compatibility/default.aspx

You can also try an evaluation of WMS 2012 to see if your applications run the way they are expected to.

  • If they are 16-bit DOS apps, then they will not run on Multipoint because WMS is 64-bit and a 64-bit OS does not support 16-bit apps.

  • Yeah, I've tried to get old 16-bit programs to work, but a blue bar appears on the screen informing me that the application is not compatible. Compatibility mode doesn't help.
