DPM Agent and Windows Server Backup on same machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

at the moment we have got network problems on one site so we cannot really backup the servers (only very slow) at  the site because the DPM servers are located at another site.
Because of that I would like to configure a local backup (just files, profile directories.. no databases) with Windows Server Backup to an USB drive.
The server OS is Windows Server 2008 SP2 on which are Shadow Copies configured, too.

Do you see any problems with this?
I guess I should stop the DPM protection for this server so that the DPM jobs do not try to run during the Windows Server Backup?

    kind regards

  • Hi,

No, this is the way you should do.

Regarding your WAN connection, download iPerf and run a client / server connection between your sites. When you have the ability to backup your remote site very slow and you know you have an error it could be a duplex-error in some media converter hardware or modem etc.

Verify that your up-speed and down-speed is the same, for example 10 mbit from site A to site B and 10 mbit from site B to site A.
