only one readyboot trace file ever exists under c:\windows\prefetch\readyboot RRS feed

  • Question

  • I only ever see 'trace1.fx' in the c:\windows\prefetch\readyboot folder.  Never trace2.fx or trace3.fx or trace4.fx, etc.  I have a lot of applications installed.  Bug?  These traces are supposed to save the last 5 boots for optimizing boot.

  • It is normal behavior. Superfetch uses the first trace file. The new one will not be created, until the first trace file is too large or cannot be accessed.

  • But in a stock windows 7 install, I see 5 trace files numbered trace1.fx through trace10.fx, but only 5 of them at a time, for example:

    Trace3.fx

    Trace4.fx

    Trace5.fx

    Trace6.fx

    Trace7.fx
