WDS Taking Really long time to Deploy RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just started experimenting with WDS. I got Everything setup on a test lab enviorment. When I finally go to deploy my captured image a few things I noticed happens.

    1. Two Images show with the same name. Which I check the source folder on the WDS i see three files.   [filename].wim, [filename]-(2).wim, and res.rwm.  The two wim files are about 800kbs in size and the Rwm file is like 3.4 gb's

Since there are two Wim's in that folder referencing the Same image I get two choices in the Deployment app with the same name

    2. Once I choose an Image (I have done this with both choices) The deployment starts but takes a Really long times. MY current test has been going now for about 17 hours and is only 5% complete.  What is wrong?

File resources are shared across a image group and single-instanced. The metadata of each image resides in a separate physical .wim file. The shared resources are in the res.rwm and the metadata in the *.wim files in the ImageGroup. Please refer to the chapter "Workinig with Images" in the WDS whitepaper at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=81031 for more information

    For your slow install problem,

    1. Are you using WDS in Server 2003 or Server 2008?

    2. If in server 2008, are you using multicast?

This information may help us drill down to the problem.

  • I found this thread regarding my problem on another technet forum. They mention a workaround for anyone experiencing the same issue
