Permissions for "Server Share" DP RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just need to verify if Site Server computer account needs to be an administrator on Server which has share or it just needs permissions to share itself? If it needs to be an administrator on server itself what is the benefit of using server share, just a control of space where packages will be put?

  • Yes, it also has to be admin on the DP share box. And the benefit is control where the files will be placed: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb681012.aspx: "The main reason for you to create a share on a server and defining that share as a distribution point is that this allows you to choose a specific drive where Configuration Manager will create and write the support files for the distribution point role."
