Re-use network share for SUP downloads between SCCM 2007 and 2012? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We currently have network folders created to download software updates for SCCM 2007. Now that we are bringing up SCCM 2012, can I point SUP downloads to those same folders so I don't need to duplicate file space for both SCCM environments?  Is the structure the same so either SCCM can pull from them to their respective DPs?

    Thanks!

  • No, you can't directly use the same folders and files for the package source locations. You can specify the 2007 folder as a source to download content from though when downloading updates.

Are you really that concerned about 20-50GB though? If so why? You should be using cheap storage for this.

  • Thanks, Jason.  I ended up copying the updates to new folders for SCCM 2012.  We do have the extra space so it won't cause any immediate problems.  Since the updates were already there, going through the process of "downloading" updates went quickly since it didn't require copying them again from WSUS.  No worries.
