Question on software-triggered cold boot in MDT and Windows PE RRS feed

  • Question

  • I looked for a forum name that would specific to Windows PE but could not find one. Because I am using MDT 2013 on Windows PE, I decided to post here. Please direct me to the right place.

The scenario is: as one of the tasks that I need to perform during Windows PE is to apply a firmware to a disk drive and to issue a cold boot command because only a cold boot would trigger the new firmware to load. Everything leading up to the cold boot I have working but I cant figure out how to perform  a cold boot in Windows PE.

Of course, "wpeutil reboot" is not sufficient, "wpeutil shutdown" is, but requires someone to press the power on button which breaks the automation.

    Does anyone have any pointers?

For example, why is rtcwake on Linux capable of this software-issued cold boot and not on Windows PE?

    Using Build 10240

Most important details are logs. If you are unsure how to post logs or where to find them then reference https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/
