  • You'll need to open more than TCP 554 on the host firewall to allow the App-V services to function as a large number of high ports are used when clients stream applications. See this KB article for details: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932017/en-us

You would be better off creating program exceptions for sghwdsptr.exe and sghwsvr.exe, which will then automatically open the required ports.

  • I have the same problem. Setup IIS7 and SQL 2005 SP2 on Server 2008 R2 server, installed app-v 4.5 without any problem. Client computer is running XP SP3. Both server and client are In Vmware.

Logon to the client computer and I'm able to see the Default Application icon on the desktop. Double click on it and it will give me Launch Failed message with the same error code:

    error code: 4505CD-19D06A0A-10000004

I'm able to ping the server by both the name and IP address, also tried to telent to server by the name and IP and both worked. I got the response like:

    RTSP/1.0 400 Bad Request
Server: Microsoft  Application Virtualization Server/4.5.0.1485 [Win32; Windows NT 6.0]

On the server, I created two rules in Windows Firewall with Advanced Security to enable inbound and outbound connection on port554.

    Any advise? Thanks.

  • Problem solved by adding both sghwdsptr.exe and sghwsvr.exe into Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Thanks a lot.

  • I was also able to fix the problem by adding these two exceptions in the firewall.

I just wanted to add that I am running my App-V lab in a virtual environment and another issue that I was having was with the App-V Management Server service. It fails to start on boot when running in a virtualized environment even though it is setup to start automatically. It will be necessary to start the service manually after any reboot to the Management Server or the application launch would fail. Maybe Microsoft will fix it in an update pack if it is a product design issue.

  • 1. solution: creating program exceptions for sghwdsptr.exe and sghwsvr.exe

    2. "the serives will fails to start on boot when running in a virtualized environment", that's right and it was already discribed in Microsoft App-V 4.5 Trial Guide

  • Excellent, thanks for helping with this about the firewall. Wish the Trial Guide would be a more thorough guide. I've spent hours wondering why stuff won't work and finding incorrect information in the guide is often the culprit.
