Managing GPO on 2008 and 2012: is it possible? best practice?

    Question

  • My scenario: We've recently implemented  VM infrastructure upgrades: among them, is a new Domain Controller that is

    server 2012R2.

Our old existing DC is Server 2008R2, and is where domain group policies were built.

We have three DC's in the environment in total, and so my question is:

Do I/Should I continue to manage group policy on the 2008 server?

or do I manage on 2012....should I be able to do both?

I'm not sure if any of the three servers are operating in a different "mode" than any other..

I see they're all GC servers

    Many thanks for insight..

  • Hi

or do I manage on 2012....should I be able to do both? >>> Yes,you can manage gpo's both of them. But i recommned you that you should manage policies from server 2012 r2,cause of new features, like ie 10-11 configuration,etc...

Also check "What's New in Group Policy in Windows Server"

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn265973.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Also recommned you that transfer fsmo roles on server 2012 r2,so it will be your PDC,and you should configure DDF on your PDC..
