Storing Windows images on Windows PE Thumb Drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am following http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825109.aspx to create a boot able Windows PE pen drive. The first attempt was somewhat successful in that I was able to create a primary a Win PE x64 FAT32 and a secondary NTFS data partition. The problem I ran into was when I went to launch Ghost I got the following error: The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present. After doing some research I concluded running a 32 bit app (Ghost) in the WinPE 3.0 (Win7) 64 bit environment is the cause. Apparently Win PE x64 does not have a 32 bit emulator which
would needed for Ghost. So now I am trying to create a Win PE x86 pen drive and having problems. The first concern I have is can I have a primary Win PE FAT32 x86 partition and a extended NTFS x64 data partition to store the images themselves?

    Help and/or suggestions is appreciated.
