Lose permissions when I rename a folder RRS feed

  • Question

  • My wife named a folder 'Cindy' on my computer in 'Documents'.

She called me in because 'folder' was not in the right click menu under 'new->'. I found this bizarre and decided to create the new folder in 'Documents' and drag it into it. After I did it I opened it up and there was no folder, although when I hovered over the folder name 'Cindy',the pop up box revealed this folder and 2 other folders that were not showing up when you opened the folder up.

I felt I might have a virus, but none turned up. I closed all programs and windows and rebooted, and the same thing was happening.

At that point I created a folder named 'C' in 'Documents' (because I already had one named Cindy) and cut and pasted the contents (at least what I saw) from 'Cindy' to the new folder 'C'. I double checked before and after this that I could create a new folder, and it was an option. Then I deleted the folder 'Cindy' and renamed the newly made folder 'C' to 'Cindy'. After doing that, 'folder' was no longer a right click option under 'new->' in the folder! I renamed it 'C' and the option returned to the right click menu. After sufficiently searching this out and scratching my head, I come to you. Is there something I am not seeing?

    Windows 7Home Premium
    Service Pack 1
    64 bit OS

    Thank you all in advance
