Bug: Friending someone automatically follows them RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • When I become friends with someone, I also sign up to follow that person.

I think this is a bug because...

    (1) When I follow someone, it doesn’t instantly send a friend request. So it only works one way (becoming a friend follows them but following someone doesn’t send a friend invitation).

    (2) And then when I Stop Following someone, it still leaves them as a friend.

So the behavior seems way too inconsistent for this to be intentional.

  • I have a semi-related quetion. When I make friends with John Doe does this automatically means that John makes friends with me? I think that it definitely does.

Why do we ever need to populate two events in “Recent activity” feed?

    • X is now friends with Y.
    • Y is now friends with X.

They are 100% redundant to my mind (and no, that's not the case when redundancy is a good thing).

Especially when the language they use is "Name1 and Name2 are now friends."
