Configure DHCP for PXE with UEFI only for Specific Server Vendors RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I am setting a DHCP Server with PXE over UEFI. I want to ensure that HPE Server boot to a specific Image while Dell Boot to another. Is there a way I can configure the DHCP policy to do this? Not sure how to do this if its possible.

Based my research, there is no way to achieve it in DHCP policy.

In the PXE booting process, after the client receives the PXE answer it needs to go to the next step, which is to download a boot environment. This is where DHCP options 66 and 67 come in. Option 66 tells the PXE booted client what the Boot server IP is and option 67 the Boot file that needs to be loaded. You can only configure one path in option 67.

  • Hi Candy,

Thank you very much for your response. For some reason, i am not getting notified about the udpates even thought i enabled the notification. Anyway, i am still looking for a solutions.

I was told that there is a way to identify a server if its HPE, DELL or some other brand from DHCP. Here's a link to a technet on a vendor class to detect Cisco devices https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/poshchap/2015/12/18/use-powershell-to-add-a-vendor-specific-class-to-windows-dhcp/

I am looking for something similar but to identify Dell or HPE Server. I am not looking for a specific model but just plain Dell or HPE.

    Thanks,

    Mohit
