Linked Server Dropped when Distributor is Dropped... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I have been using Transactional Replication, for Replication my 2 Database Located in Different Servers. All things are going fine. But when i Drop the Distributor then the Linked Server associated with that 2 Server's is also dropped automatically.

But the problem is we have Other Application's using that Linked Server, so by dropping Replication these Application's are also Affected because of the associated Linked Server is Dropped.

How can we avoid this, is there any property we have to set so that if the distributor is dropped then it should not drop or affect the Linked Server which is already created for Other Application's Purpose. Or is this the default behavior of Replication which we cannot control.

       Please help me on this...

       Thanking You...

  • Unfortunately this is not a behavior you can modify.

Your best best is to script out the linked server and then recreate it after the drop.

  • Hello,

You could probably try creating another linked server with a different name.

    Thanks,
