Unable to edit enterprise calendar in Project Online 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am using project online with Project Pro so I have 2016 version of both.  I am trying to edit the Enterprise calendar and PWA is throwing up the error message saying that I don't have Project Professional....which is not true.

If I try to edit an enterprise resource in Pro (from the Resource Centre) is works fine and opens the resource for editing.

Is there a setting that I have not updated correctly, or some other trick that I am missing.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I believe you are describing a bug that was fixed many months ago.  I would recommend that you update with copy of Microsoft Project Professional 2016 with the latest Cumulative Updates.  I believe that will fix your problem.  Hope this helps.

  • Hello Cathy Char

Please verify that you have configured Project Pro to connect to project server

    1) Open Project Pro

    2) File / Info / Manage Account

    3) Click Add

    4) Enter Account Name and Project Server URL:   (be sure connection is working)

    5) OK.. OK.. OK

    6)Restart Project Pro

  • Hi Michael,

I am definitely connected as I can edit enterprise resources..  When I select to edit from the resource centre, it opens the resource in Project Pro for edit.  My account is set up and connected and working.

When I try to edit a calendar, I get the following message

  • Dale,

thanks for your response.  I will update the version and see if this fixes the issue.

  • We use Project Server 2013 and Project Professional 2013 and have the identical problem in that we cannot edit enterprise calendars. What "latest version" do we need to install?

  • I'm having this same issue and have reinstalled and repaired Project 2016 several times. Have you heard which version you need to have to get the fix? Thank you.

  • Hi EleanorH2,

If using Project Online, then the latest version and the only version now supported to connect to Project Online is Project 2016 / Project Pro for Office 365.  I have struggled with this particular problem issue for several years now and have had limited success in getting it to work.  The following two blogs might help you nail this...

  • Thank you for the blog links! We've just recently upgraded to Project 2016. I'll post back if this helps me resolve the issue. It's just so odd that I can update resources but not calendars.

  • As mentioned above, we had the same issue as you, EleanorH2.

It was resolved when we applied the June 2016 patch referred to in the post by Ben Howard above.

  • Good to know that the installs worked for you! Thank you!

I've checked with my support team and we only have one of the four updates installed. I'm going to work with them to get the others installed to see if that resolves our issue.

  • Thank you once again for the links! I've checked with my support team and we only have one of the four updates mentioned installed. I'm going to work with them to get the other three installed to see if that fixes my issues. I really appreciate the help!

  • We tried to install the updates to my machine but the install said they were already on my machine, so that's not the solution for me. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Any other ideas I might be able to try to see if it helps? Thank you in advance.

As a workaround, I've created a new base calendar (for some reason I can create New in MS Project 2016) and have made our edits. Now I just need to update the new projects to use this calendar. If we add any holidays, I'm guessing I'll need to create a new, new calendar and make those changes again. :)

  • Hi  EleanorH2

Have you made sure that you are installing the patch for the 2016 version? In addition, were you given an option for the 32 bit or 64 bit and did you choose the correct one?

The reason that I ask is that I chose 64 bit by mistake and received the same message. Once I installed the patch for the 32 bit, it went through fine.

Incidentally, another reason that won't be able to edit calendars is if you delegated to someone and then tried to do the edit. Is this a possibility in your case?

  • Hi HFProjects,

I believe we tried both the 32 bit and 64 bit installations, just in case. I'll try them again though in case we missed one.

Did you do both the February 9th AND June 7th updates? Is there a particular order I should try?

On a positive note, I am now able to create a new base calendar and apply that to new projects, but I really would LOVE to update the current calendars so we don't lose the project specific non-working days.

Thank you for the other reason, but I don't believe I've delegated to anyone else. I'll take a look though - just in case.

  • Hi EleanorH2

We only applied the June update as they typically tend be "cumulative", which they include everything up to and including.

When we had the error message, we were able to create a new base calendar, but were unable to edit it. Are you able to edit your new, base calendar?

    Thursday, August 3, 2017 7:31 PM
  • Hi HFprojects,

No, I'm not able to edit the new calendar. Each time we need to change it we'll need to create a new calendar.

I'll give the June installs another try.
