  • Hello,

that number is a unique error ID that will be listed in the SharePoint server's log files. The log files are saved on the server's hard disk. The folder with the logs can be shared, so you don't have to have physical access to the server. Talk to your server administrator about this.

The log files are a bit more complex than simple text files, so you need specific software to read the logs. One possibility is this log viewer tool from CodePlex:

    http://sharepointlogviewer.codeplex.com/

Once you have this tool installed on your local computer, browse to the folder with the log files and open the log file that covers the time span in which the error occurred. You can then filter all log entries by the correlation ID and get more information about the error.

In many cases, there will be several entries for each correlation ID.

    cheers, teylyn
