Cannot replicate one of VMs RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

we have problem replicate one VM.

    Host WS2012R2, VM Guest WS2012R2

When i try replicate another it works.

    Eventlog:

    Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS

    EventID 18012

    Found stale snapshot entry

    after that

    EventID 33676

Replication operation for virtual machine 'XX' failed: The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003

    Eventlog analytic:

Found stale snapshot entry (A1687DC8-4A47-4A21-86C1-FE596C6A033D) in snapshot list for realized VM A282D9F0-DD3A-4B79-96EE-CAAF661990A0 - ignoring snapshot!

ConfigRepository::StoreConfiguration failed to import VM configuration (HRESULT 0x80070003)!

I try vssadmin list snapshots - nothing

I try disksnaphot and list snapshots - nothing

    In HV manager, no checkpints

Look at system volume information - nothing , only small old DPM bitmap files ( dpm uninstalled)

    Integration tool current and working

Have anyone any idea what to do?

    Thanks, Jan

  • Hello all.

    So Self reply.

Problem was simple. Non-existing "snapshot file location" in guest settings.

  • Hi Jan,

How does the replication path look like for the problematic VM compare to the others?

When enabling replication and when you get to Choose Initial Replication Method make sure that path is the same on the replication server.

On the replication server go to  Hyper-V Settings > Replication Configuration (Enabled as Replica server) > under the section Authorization and storage check that the file location or storage location match the above.

Also test the path to make sure it works.

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • Hello Leon.

Paths are the same on HV settings. V:\hypervdata, path works

The test I perform was from host1 to host2

guest1 ( not working replication ), total size of files 1,8TB to host2:

    V:\hypervdata\guest1os.vhdx
    V:\hypervdata\guest1data.vhdx
S:\hypervdata\guest1fast.vhdx ( i try exclude this file, no success)

    guest2 ( replication working), total size 20GB to host2:

    V:\hypervdata\guest2os.vhdx

I think problem is not size to replicate, problem is, it cannot find snapshot.

So from MS will be nice to have some writen principle how replication works from VSS perspective

Where HV host1 see "stale snapshot entry". I look to vssadmin and checkpoint and see nothing!

    Regards, Jan

  • If I understood correctly, Hyper-V Replica thinks that your "guest1" has a snapshot?

Does it have one actually or not?

  • Hello Leon.

From the eventlog, it seems to be.....

So no snaphosts or check points. No space occupied like in this thread :

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/lync/en-US/6492e7d9-5dc9-4133-8909-c574fb7f3913/solved-clean-delete-orphaned-shadowcopy-snapshots-which-are-unlisted-in-vssadmin?forum=winserverfiles

I try to run chkdsk without any parametr ( on running host1 without locking drive), all is OK

  • Hi,

Please also check this VM replication health status if there's any error or warning shown?

    Best regards,

    Michael
