Windows 10 suddenly asks for credentials when there are none?

    Question

  • Hi,

I've been trying to create a "fake" network path in Windows 10 Pro. For that reason I created a shared folder.

Using file explorer I can access \\127.0.0.1\FolderName - no problems there.

But if I edit the hosts file and replace 127.0.0.1 for some other name, Windows asks for a password that I never set up. And no matter which credentials I put in, they're always wrong.

I am the owner of the folder and everyone has full control of it.

Is there a workaround for this?

    Thanks in advance.
