FOPE: Users and Quarantine RRS feed

  • Question

  • 2 part question.

We use FOPE (or hope to continue using it, depending on the answers to these questions) in education on an EES license. We have "200 licenses" for FOPE.

Obviously, we have a lot more mailboxes (1700 ish)

Does this mean we can only use 200 quarantines/mailboxes as such? Is this not a straight-through filter?

And slightly linked to the above, is there no "global quarantine" from where I can view/release emails? Or is it all on a per-user basis, effectively making this a very expensive or useless addition?

Additionally: is it even possible to send outgoing mails via FOPE if you don't use Exchange?

  • Hi,

FOPE is licensed per user so if you have 1700 users with a mailbox you have to license 1700 users.

    From http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/en-us/fope-licensing.aspx:

"Forefront Online Protection for Exchange is licensed through Microsoft Volume Licensing in the Microsoft Online Services program on a per user or per device monthly subscription model...."

Based on your amount of users you should contact your license distributor maybe there is a discount possible.

In FOPE there is no global quarantine, but what you can do as administrator is to connect to other users quarantine.

More about quarantine in FOPE here:

You can send emails over FOPE without Exchange, generally FOPE is a huge SMTP relay service.
